China went all out for the arrival of President Trump, throwing him a welcome ceremony outside the Great Hall of the People before discussions turned private amongst the leaders. A Chinese honor guard played the national anthems of both countries while Trump smiled approvingly. Children waved U.S. and Chinese flags frantically, followed by the clapping of Trump. Digger a little deeper, Trump and Chinese President, Xi Jinping, have many issues to discuss behind closed doors. These issues range from trading tensions and China’s participation in squeezing North Korea over its nuclear weapons program.
Before his arrival to China, Trump made his message exceptionally clear to Beijing by using an address to the National Assembly in South Korea to scold the North. Trump stated, “All responsible nations must join forces to isolate the brutal regime of North Korea. You cannot support, you cannot supply, you cannot accept.”President Trump has called upon Russia and China specifically to implement U.N. Security Council resolutions against North Korea regarding the enforcement of sanctions. Thus far, China’s trade surplus with the United States in October was widened 12.2 percent compared to the previous year. The total surplus was estimated at $223 billion, raising within the first 10 months of the year. It appears that Trump will underscore his public messages when he and Xi talk, according to White House officials.
